News Flash!

Terry and I are pleased to announce our new association with the AC
Family Network
(at www.ACFamily.net ) with the hosting of our BYN list. Since the BYN
has
become much more popular than ever expected, it has outgrown our mail
handling capabilities and has now moved to a mail server directly
connected
to the Internet. We now have over 700 members and the list continues to
grow every week. Although this is a major step for us, it should be a
seamless change for all of our devoted readers. Your BYN list will now
come
from "This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it." and any replies to the BYN will go directly
to
myself and Terry at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Our own BYN web site is now at: www.acfamily.net/between and along with
us
the ACREW (Air Canada Retired Employees Web) and the AVIA (The Canadian
Aviation Links Website) sites by Tom Grant have also moved to
www.acfamily.net/acrew and www.acfamily.net/avia from their previous
home
under the ACRA domain.

The AC Family Network at www.acfamily.net is a new web site created by
Alan
Rust (an AC employee) especially for Air Canada employees past, present
and
future. Although still in it's infancy, when completed it will provide
specialized information geared toward the active or retired AC employee
as
well as business WWW hosting at special rates for AC Family members. It
is
designed to bring the employees of AC together in a news, travel, and
business environment. Also planned is a large "discount" area with
special
offers from around the world.

. Tom Grant received this message recently from Don Evans
Secretary/Treasurer  CAHS Toronto Chapter-
Subject: Fwd: TCA ADVERT. THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS - FEB.16, 1952

I came across this old TCA advertisement today while looking at
the Illustrated London News for February 16, 1952. This was a
special issue covering the passing of King George VI.
Love the line "Canada - Only a day by TCA"
Via TCA's 40 passenger 'North Star'
I trust TCA's Reservation Agent Miss Peggy Knapp is alive & well and
a member of the Pionairs.
Perhaps our MTL CAHS Director & Pionair member, Ross Smyth, will
recall Peggy.

Tom suggests you may wish to check out the PhotoGallerie - People &
Place on the A-Crew site that is where the image now resides.
Cheers, Tom

. Found on the internet.
C-5 FLAP FLAP:
A Springfield, Mass., couple tending to some outside chores
recently narrowly missed getting knocked flat by a flap.  John
Stocks saw the C-5A flap in freefall and yelled to his wife to run.
She dodged the flap attack, but their clothesline was crushed.
The C-5A landed safely.  Air Reserve officials are trying to figure
out what caused the flap to depart the plane without permission.

COUNTING PRISONERS AS PAX?
Officials in Pueblo, Colo., are asking if they can count prisoners
as passengers to get their numbers up and improve their chances at
getting additional federal airport dollars.  Right now, 75 to 150
prisoners fly out of Pueblo each week.  Whatever happens, the
airport got an "A" for effort, and a "C" for chutzpah.

DOT WARNS AIRLINES ABOUT INSURANCE Y2K FINE PRINT
Proving that it always pays to read the fine print, the DOT last
week  told U.S. and foreign airlines that it had not approved any
exclusion  from its mandated minimum passenger liability insurance
rules for any  Y2K-related computer problems.  The DOT warned that
some aviation  insurers want to add a clause to airline policies that
would exclude  liability for all damages related to Y2K problems and
that some carriers  already may have had similar exclusions written
into their policies.   The DOT has not approved any Y2K-related
insurance exclusions.

WHAT ON EARTH WAS ON THE MENU?
Recently, a Northwest Airlines DC-10 inbound to Detroit Metro from
Europe, informed ATC that all the lavatories had malfunctioned and
the passengers were using oxygen masks.
