=================================================================
This is our 7th anniversary year -
Since Oct 95, Vesta Stevenson and Terry Baker, both
Vancouver Island Pionairs, have been issuing a newsletter on the
Internet for those Pionairs and/or ex Air Canada types who have
supplied us with their Internet email addresses.
The Newsletter was the brainchild of Vesta, who gave the name
'NETLETTER'.
We believe that our NETLETTER, which originates from
Vancouver Island, is the FIRST to use this medium to disperse
information for retirees of Air Canada.
The Netletter contains airline related information
such as anecdotes or stories supplied by some of the recipients,
Internet, BBS's, travel news, cheap, excuse me, inexpensive,
accommodations, tours, interline travel, and, in some small way,
keep our Air Canada family together and in touch.
How many times are we referred to a CIC for further information  - and
how are
we able to do that? Or even nip into the Employee Travel Office
to pick up the latest Interline offerings?
Our 'NETLETTER' is NOT sponsored  nor are
we seeking any financial support, only the Internet email
addresses of those who would like to receive our 'NETLETTER'.and,
hopefully,
send us some interesting stories of events which happened during your
career's with
Trans-Canada Air Lines, Air Canada or the ex-CAIL family.
We are pleased that the Employee Travel & Recognition Office do send us
updates from
time to time.

forecasted profitability, we will be cancelling our Edmonton-Los Angeles

conjunction with Star Alliance partner United Airlines.

. Nice to know.
Air Canada flies sick children to dream destination. Today, Wed 30th, Air
Canada is flying a flight chartered by the Sunshine Foundation for Kids, a

to Orlando, Florida. Once in Orlando the children will enjoy a day of fun at
Disney World. The flight departs Dorval at 7:00 a.m. and returns at midnight.
About 80 children will be travelling with approximately 40 people assisting

Air Canada News:
Happy Halloween from ZIP. In the spirit of Halloween fun, ZIP unveiled a unique
twist on its usual plane design. The idea for the spooky holiday design
originated with ZIP employees who saw the orange plane as the ideal canvas for
Halloween decoration. By working with employees at the Vancouver paint shop,
ZIP's crew created a decal that altered the airline's orange plane to
incorporate a Halloween twist. The usual stylized bee now appears in costume as
a witch riding a broomstick. ZIP's spooky new Halloween plane is now flying ZIP
routes throughout its network. The design will remain in place until after
Halloween

.   From the Parts & Pieces issued by Frank Pedder at YUL Stores -
To All Air Canada Employees & retirees.
Air Canada's Special Assistance Team Is Seeking New Members.
Dear Employee/retiree:
Although the possibility of a major aircraft accident is extremely unlikely,
Air Canada must nevertheless develop certain contingency plans to deal with
such an occurrence. In this regard, we would like to ensure that an appropriate
level of care and assistance is provided to survivors of an accident and
families of any passengers
who were on board an effected flight.
In order to provide the best possible care and assistance, Air Canada is
soliciting permanent and retired employees to volunteer to work with survivors
and families of passengers in the aftermath of an aviation
disaster.
Special Assistance Team members must possess the following qualities:
They must be caring, compassionate, understanding and patient individuals.
They must possess good oral communications skills.
They must be able to exercise good judgement under very difficult emotional
conditions.
They must be able to cope with the extreme emotional environment that occurs
following an aircraft accident.
Special Assistance Team members should be aware of the following:
You must be available for assignment, and may be required to travel, at a
moment's notice twenty-four hours a day, three hundred and sixty-five days a
year. This requirement includes all statutory holidays. As an aircraft accident
can occur anywhere in the world you must be in possession of a valid passport
at all times.
You must, if assigned certain duties, be prepared to be away from home for
three days to three weeks (this may be longer if the situation warrants).
You will be exposed to the extreme emotions of the survivors and families of
passengers on the effected flight.
You must be able to deal with survivors and families of passengers in a clear,
caring and compassionate manner.
You must be prepared to do all possible to ensure that the reasonable needs and
wishes of the survivors and families of passengers are fulfilled.
Volunteers who are accepted as Special Assistance Team members will be
trained in Emergency Response procedures, which consists of:
Special Assistance Team roles and responsibilities
Recognising and coping with stress
Victim intervention
Stages of recovery
If you are interested in becoming a Special Assistance Team member, please

. Travelling to Aruba?
Banking hours: Mon-Fri from 8AM til 3:30PM. Airport: 7 days a week, 8AM til
4PM. One of the most interesting coins in the world comes from Aruba. Many
souvenirs are made with the square 50 cent coin and the coin itself
makes a unique gift for numismatic friends.
Withdraw money via ATM machines which are connected to the Cirrus network.
Presently ATM's are accepted at ABN-AMRO Bank, Caribbean Mercantile Bank, and
Aruba Bank. The card must either have a Cirrus, Master Card or Visa logo. ATM's
outside the U.S. accept only 4 digit PINs. Cash is dispensed in local currency.
Climate:
Yearly averages: Temperature 82 degrees Rainfall 17"; Humidity 76%; Water
temperature 80 degrees; Wind speed 16 mph.
Daily sunshine: More than 8 hours.
Currency:
The Aruban florin is a sound currency, backed by gold and foreign exchange.
The Aruban florin, like the dollar, is divided into 100 cents and there are
coins of
5, 10, 25 and a 50 cent square coin, pictured above. There is also a one florin
coin.
Drivers license:
Both International and foreign drivers licenses accepted.
Drinking water:
Distilled and purified seawater from the tap. Don't be afraid to drink the
water in Aruba. It's no doubt much purer than what you get at home. And just
because it's distilled, don't think that it will have a funny taste. Tap water
is very good and warm, which makes it nice for showering off when you come in
from the ocean, or right out of the pool.
Electricity: 110 V AC - 60 cycles. No need to bring fancy adapters if you're
from the USA or any other country which uses 110 volts and 60 cycles. Your hair
dryer, shaver, curling iron and recharger for your video camera will all work
here.
Entry requirements: For U.S. and Canadian citizens, proof of citizenship and
return ticket. A U.S. driver's license won't do.
Bring your passport if you have it. If not, a birth certificate will work.
Languages: Papiamento and Dutch, English and Spanish widely spoken.
Population: 81,500
Location: 15 miles from Venezuela and 2090 miles from New York. 12 degrees
north latitude and 70 degrees west longitude, outside the hurricane belt.
Size: 20 miles long by 6 miles wide, 70 square miles. Highest elevation is 617
feet, Mount Yamanota.
Store hours: 8 AM - 6 PM, Monday through Saturday. Shops open on Sunday and
holidays when cruise ships are in port.
Time: Atlantic standard time.
Traffic: Moves on the right; international signs.
