Amelia Earhart's helmet worn on 1928 flight across Atlantic sells for $825,000
The one-of-a-kind artifact far exceeded presale estimates, fetching 10 times the expected amount from an unnamed buyer.
In 1928, Earhart donned her leather cap when she completed her famous flight across the Atlantic. According to Heritage Auctions, which hosted the sale, the leather helmet was an exact match to the photos of the helmet she was seen wearing.
