. WHATS ON WHERE.
Vancouver Island Pionairs Fall luncheon is being held at McMorrans
in Victoria today Oct 6th at 11:30.

World Airline Road Race is being held in Vancouver on Oct 14th - 17th.
This is the 18th annual race featuring two key events, the 5km and 10km
running races. Both races take place along the Stanley Park sea wall,
recognised as the best urban running trail in the world.
The World Airline Road Race typically attracts 1,500 to 2,000 runners,
largely from airlines throughout the world. The event is held in a
different host city each year, and serves to build a spirit of friendly
competition among airline industry employees while also giving the host
city a boost to local tourism. Boeing and Canadian Airlines are two of the
major sponsors of this years event.

. Bill Anderson sends this -
Subject: Onex Website?
Came across this unusual site while wandering the Internet regarding Onex.
It seems to be wading into the anti-Onex fray.  Have followed it for a
few days and something new seems to be add each day or so.
Even the URL seems to have a message.

. From Brian Dunn's email info from YYZNEWS -
Inter-Canadi>n will be pulling out of all intra-Ontario routes as of
October 2nd, leaving Canadi>n Regional and Ontario Regional to fill the
gap.  Additional Beech 1900s of Air Georgian (dba Ontario Regional) will
be used on routes from Toronto to Kingston, London, and Sault
Ste.Marie.  Inter-Canadi>n will deploy their aircraft on services within
Quebec and to/from the Maritime provinces.  Separately they have
recently dropped Gander Nfld, and are now pulling out of Sydney N.S.

Air Canada's winter schedule effective October 31st features daily
A340-300 service between YYZ and Barbados (probably due to planned
code-share with BWIA on that route) and daily A340 to Jamaica.  The YYZ
to LAX route is going to have a fifth flight added with an early morning
A319 departing YYZ.  The new A330s may start to be seen at YYZ by late
November when one may be used to/from Vancouver 3 days a week.  The
first A330 is due for delivery on October 18th to Montreal, and go into
regular service October 31st between Montreal(YUL) and London(LHR).

. Stew Stockfish sends this message -
Subject: Thank you
A great BIG thank you for your assistance in tracking down our old friend
Cal Copeland & his wife.
I don't think you had hit the send key for netletter 409  that I had two
responses. One from Geo. McKillop & the other from Fraser Muir.
This truly amazing because each year at AGM's we would  ask of his
whereabouts but nobody knew. Not even his good friend Norm Donnelly.
I guess we just asked the wrong people.
Thanks again & regards..... Stew in the Soo This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

. Prestwick Close Golf Tourney.
Ralph and Heather Tisdall sends this update -
We had a very successful 30th Anniversary of the Flight Operations
Prestwick Close Golf Tournament. It was held on P.E.I ,Sept 6,7,8,9 &10,
staying at the Cavendish Country Inn and Cottages. The Management at the
Inn and Cottages went beyond the call of duty to make sure we all had
everything we needed to ensure we had a pleasant visit with them.
We highly recommend this place for any of the readers who plan a trip
to PEI. We played at three Island Golf Courses. The Links at Crowbush,
Green Gables and Stanhope. Wonderful golf and renewed friendships again--we
won't talk about the scores though.
We had 52 people attend with only a few cancellations.
The Air Canada Prestwick Close Plaque was won by George Landry.
Low Gross Men was Roscoe Wilson and the Low Gross Women was Bev. Papp.
Low Net Men was Willie Papp and the Low Net Women was Mary Mepham.
The Draw for the 2 Nights, 2 Games of Golf for Two at Crown Isle was won by
Rodger Miners and the Framed Painting by Maximick was won by John Dorward
of Melbourne Australia.
Everyone was pleased with their prizes and we were lucky enough to have a
prize for everyone.
We have to thank Air Canada, Gift Shops on PEI, the Cavendish Country Inn
and Cottages, Ken Stefanik, Ralph Tisdall, Bev Edwards,
Campbell River Ford and Stores in the Comox Valley. We also have to thank
Laurie Godfrey who made and embroidered the Fleece Vests, Golf Shirts
and the Golf Towels for the 30th Anniversary.
We had a very good response with the orders and we looked great when we were
all decked out in out Anniversary Gear..
The Dinners at Fisherman's Wharf. The Friendly Fisherman and
Chez Yvonne were great and we all enjoyed the Lobsters.
We spent the first night of the Tournament as guests of Scott Stevens
[son of Fran and Frank Stevens] at the Haviland Club in Charlottetown. They
treated us to Cocktails and Finger Foods before we all headed out to
The Bonnie Brae Restaurant for Dinner. On the last night we all went down
to Charlottetown again for Dinner at the Olde Dublin Pub and we were
entertained by the famous Fiddler, Rick Wood.
We had a wonderful start and finish to a very successful 30th Anniversay
of the Prestwick Close.
By the looks of things, the year 2000 will see us back at Schooner Cove
and Fairwinds Golf and Country Club (on Vancouver Island). Letters will be
going out before the end of the year.
We look forward to seeing all the old friends again and for anyone who is
interested in joining us please e-mail , write or phone and we will send
you out all the information when it is time for mailing.
The tentative dates for the year 2000 are Arriving Sept 4th.
Golf on Sept 5th and 6th, departing on Sept 7th.

. Smilie.
From our "student pilots say the darnedest things" file...
Instructor (briefing student for his first dual cross-country):
"What would you do if I fell unconscious halfway through the trip?"
Student: "Uh, let's see ... complete the flight, and log it as half dual
and half solo?"
